About Solutions

Most of our customers have very capable IT staff who can keep a network up and running, build and maintain servers, and administer applications.

They can almost certainly unpack and install SharePoint and set up a “sandbox” environment with departmental sites containing document libraries and lists.

Very quickly though, IT recognizes that SharePoint packs a lot of punch under the hood. How does a company realize the full potential of this robust platform?

Our consultants bring years of experience; not just the hands-on implementation know-how with SharePoint, but the savvy that comes with many examples of implementing real business solutions for our customers.

SharePoint 2010 Upgrade Assessment

The great new features and capabilities of SharePoint Server 2010 may have you salivating for an upgrade but before scheduling your migration, take a moment to consider the complexity of your current SharePoint 2010 or earlier environment.

No matter the platform: WSS, SharePoint 2007 (MOSS), SharePoint 2010, or Office 365/SharePoint Online, or if you are considering a simple implementation, a large enterprise-wide solution, custom applications, or an upgrade/migration from to 2010 or Office 365/SharePoint Online, our consultants can help you architect, develop, implement, test and deploy everything SharePoint, providing you with:

  • Information Architecture & Taxonomy
Disorganized and "naked" content is not very useful. It makes it hard for users to find what they are looking for or know what they are looking at. The proper content structure and metadata is essential to making SharePoint work for you.
  • Security Policies
Much of today's digital information is very sensitive in nature, and proper care must be taken to ensure that users are only able to access what they authorized to see without creating a draconian nightmare that ruins productivity.
  • Search
The easiest way to find what you're looking for is to search for it. A properly configured search setup with suggestions, refinements, and best bets is key to help users find what they are looking for quickly and keeping them productive. This goes hand in hand with Information Architecture & Taxonomy because proper metadata is essential for relevant search results.
  • Content Migration
Companies often have numerous disparate content sources ranging from intranet portals, file shares, email, and even thumb drives. Consolidating all content into a central repository is desired for superior collaboration.
  • Infrastructure Review
An infrastructure that has been around for a while may not be running as smoothly as it could. Review and remediation can improve performance and thereby improve employee productivity.
  • Setup & Implementation
Building an infrastructure from the ground up is the perfect time to do it right, so that it does not have to be readdressed later.
  • Upgrade
When the latest version comes out, businesses can realize huge benefits through upgrading and taking advantage of new features.

Ideal Solutions

Our Approach

In order to gain a better understanding of your current SharePoint environment, we’ll begin by performing a complete inventory of your existing SharePoint deployment leveraging Microsoft and Abel Solutions provided tools and scripts. Along the way we’ll identify risks to the migration process and begin to plan initial mitigation strategies to those risks. Finally we’ll develop a project plan detailing the timeline and key milestones for your SharePoint migration.

At the conclusion of our assessment, we’ll deliver an Assessment Summary detailing our findings as follows:

  • Inventory reports, including the identification of custom web parts, un ghosted pages, hard-coded URLs, etc. Appropriate recommendations related to the SharePoint migration
  • Identification of risks that require mitigation strategies Recommended SharePoint Administrator and Site/Content Administrator training
  • Proposal and Project Plan for migration services

Database Attach

The database attach method involves detaching the databases from the existing environment, restoring them to the new environment, attaching the databases to SharePoint web applications and running the upgrade. Again, this approach would involve a significant outage window where users could not access the portals, as well as a single outage window during which all fixes must be applied.
